this would be a nice option to have since it's cleaner visually, i imagine this would work somewhat like this userscript: https://github.com/mopoIo/bluesky-handle-cleaner/blob/main/BlueSky%20Handle%20Cleaner-1.0.user.js
feat: toggle for the visibility of .bsky.social on handles #136
i get what you mean, but to me it just seems a bit redundant unless youβre using something other than bluesky, this also goes for blacksky. for the average user on both platforms, the only time youβd need the full handle is to login. nothing else on the platform requires you to type something like .bsky.social at the end, not when searching for an account, tagging, etc. in regards to other pdsβs that have a default root domain like bsky's, (afaik blacksky is the only one that does.) they could have their own toggle. and if someone changed their handle to their personal domain, they most likely want people to see it, either because it leads to a website or itβs for aesthetics. it would make sense for those to be completely untouched. long story short, it'd just be a nice option to have in runes for simplicity, probably turned off by default. or instead of completely getting rid of the root domain, it could be replaced with a little symbol, similar to pds badges.
this won't be added as it's too confusing, among other reasons. alternatively Witchsky may get a feature to view display names, handles, and/or DIDs in post contexts instead of only name and handle.
I'm personally very opposed to hiding the root domain in a user's handle, as domains are a huge part of the platform and bluesky's probably shouldn't get preferential treatment.
