slowdown after tranquil-store update #39

open opened by bas.sh

built the latest commit on main (went from https://tangled.org/tranquil.farm/tranquil-pds/commit/dbc3c23c957fad03635c9e3c665831622ac7af91 to https://tangled.org/tranquil.farm/tranquil-pds/commit/05246aec585ea58f6e17409b528c651d0467ea74) and idk if i'm imagining it or if it's just something with my setup but everything seems a lot slower all of a sudden. primarily noticeable when navigating to a bsky post and having to wait a few seconds for it to load the comments (and if i liked the post right before that it will then generally show up as unliked because the request hasn't gone through yet), but also when e.g. refreshing feeds.

and not sure if this is related but every now and then the pds also seems to hang for a few seconds during which i see basically the same warning logged tens of thousands of times (still in the span of only a few seconds): https://kappa.lol/pr3KdG.png

running in Docker if that matters. with postgres stored on an nvme drive (volume mount at first, moved to bind mount to see if that'd change anything but it didn't)

Hmm I will investigate this

those error messages look suspiciously similar to https://tangled.org/tranquil.farm/tranquil-pds/issues/51

though its strange: database issues really shouldnt affect proxied requests. not to that degree at least

i do see some other "slow statement" warnings but not as many or as egregious. it's almost solely just this one. i haven't noticed any memory issues but i'm also not really memory constrained on the server i have it running on lol

moved my main back to tranquil and everything seems good again :3

also damn this just made me aware again of how much faster tranquil really is compared to the reference pds. that "i like a post but it shows up unliked when i navigate to it" i described is just standard behavior for the reference pds it seems. but with tranquil i practically never have that so i wasn't used to it anymore. kinda funny
